Helping Organizations Grow, Change, Succeed

A Client's Perspective

“I am compelled to write this short note as a token of my appreciation for Mary’s collaborative work with those of us with the Jacobs Center for Neighborhood Innovation, the Balboa Park museums and the Southeastern San Diego community.  Mary Virtue’s professionalism and open and easy approach were welcomed, especially by lay people new to these kinds of processes. Working with Sylvia M’Lafi Thompson, Mary was able to truly educate and move the cultures to another level of participation towards building the Center.  It was truly a broadening experience and I know that we of the Guide Team made the right choice in bringing her to us.”

Jihmye Collins, San Diego artist and member of the Center for Community and Cultural Arts Learning Partnership and Guide Team

Successful partnerships are possible and the report prepared for the Center for Cultural and Community Arts, San Diego captures lessons from some of these successes and includes case studies to illustrate varied approaches. The overarching lesson is that it is necessary to commit resources and a great deal of time to building relationships and during this time there are no visible outcomes. But the results are worth it. The museum finds itself moving from a bastion of remote cultures to a vibrant community hub and social center. Communities that fought allocations for museum support now battle beside the museum to garner local and state funding.
